The Silver Route crosses Zamora province from south to north \u2013 a route that was also once an itinerary for the \u2018Ca\u00f1adas Reales\u2019\u00a0(\u2018royal drovers\u2019 rights of way).<\/p>\n<p>VISITS<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>El Perdig\u00f3n: 10km away from Zamora, its underground wine cellars are famous and visitors can taste wine and local products here.<\/li>\n<li>Zamora:\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-GB\">Historical site. More than twenty Romanesque churches are spread around the town, mixing with a range of eclectic and historicist buildings that have allowed\u00a0Zamora\u00a0to become a member of the exclusive group of towns that are part of the\u00a0Art Nouveau European Route. As for contemporary architecture, the town has a range of important buildings that have earned it international recognition and contributed to enriching the town\u2019s heritage, without forgetting\u00a0Zamora\u2019s internationally renowned Easter celebrations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Castrotorafe: The ruins of the 12th-century fortress. The remains of the town and castle are also visible.<\/li>\n<li>Monasterio de Santa Mar\u00eda de Moreruela. This beautiful monastic complex is home to one of province\u2019s loveliest examples of the Romanesque style, seen in the apse and seven apse chapels. Built at the end of the 12th century.<\/li>\n<li>The municipal districts of Villaf\u00e1fila, Villarr\u00edn de Campos and Otero de Sariegos are home to the \u2018Lagunas de Villaf\u00e1fila\u2019 Regional Hunting Reserve, a group of lakes where thousands of migrating birds spend the winter.<\/li>\n<li>Villalpando.\u00a0This old Templar town\u00a0still maintains the ruins of its 12th-century\u00a0wall in the gates of San Andr\u00e9s and Santiago.\u00a0It is famous for its sweet products,known as \u2018feos\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Benavente.\u00a0This past and present strategic\u00a0point and crossroads marks the end\u00a0of The Silver Way in Zamora and provides\u00a0the visitor with a range of emblematic monuments, such as the Torre del Caracol tower\u00a0and the Romanesque churches of San Juan del Mercado\u00a0and Santa Mar\u00eda del Azogue, from the 12th and 13th centuries.The valleys\u2019 fields have made the region\u2019s\u00a0red peppers famous, while the wine of the lowlands has been awarded D.O. status.
